The Courier and Wee Waa News’ 2021 Shop Local Christmas promotion is set to return after a successful campaign in 2020.
Analysis of ticket distribution last year revealed a retail spend in the shire of at least $2.4 million based on the 121,077 tickets issued by 26 participating businesses to customers.
This year’s theme of ‘It’s time to invest in the best’, serves as a timely reminder that businesses in Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri can best cater for all of the area’s retail and service needs.
The long-running campaign encourages shire residents to support local businesses when it comes to festive shopping. In return for supporting participating businesses, customers go in the running to win vouchers to be spent at those outlets taking part in the promotion.
Last year, $5250 in vouchers was awarded to winners who were then able to spend that money locally.
Business that distributed winning tickets were also rewarded, with participants receiving a combined $3500 including $1750 in cash.
With COVID-19 again proving a challenge for businesses, The Courier’s manager Wanda Dunnet said it was more important than ever to shop locally in Narrabri Shire.
“Everything we could possibly need is right here in Narrabri Shire, and The Courier encourages people to look to our local businesses when it comes to Christmas shopping,” she said.
“While the Shop Local Christmas promotion is primarily targeted at festive shopping, it’s important to remember that supporting our shire businesses should happen all year.”
Mrs Dunnet thanked last year’s participating businesses and encouraged any business owner or manager to contact the newspaper to take part in its latest campaign.
“From last year’s ticket distribution where 121,077 coupons were given to customers, we know that it pays to participate in the campaign,” she said.
Mitre 10 manager Melissa Godden, a long-time participant in the promotion, believes everyone benefits from the newspaper’s campaign.
Ms Godden enjoyed that participating businesses had people shopping locally and this, in turn, reflected value for money for the outlets who choose to take part in the initiative.
