A man died in a light plane crash at Rowena on Saturday, December 4.

Just after 11.50am, officers attached to Central North Police District

were called to a property at Moomin Road following reports a light plane had crashed into a farm and caught fire.

Neighbouring residents attempted to assist the occupant prior to the arrival of emergency services.

Officers from NSW Rural Fire Service extinguished the blaze, however, the plane was destroyed.

The male pilot died at the scene. A crime scene has been established and police will work with Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigators as inquiries into the crash continue.

On site, investigators will examine the aircraft wreckage and site surrounds, and seek to recover any relevant components for detailed examination in the ATSB’s technical facilities in Canberra.

The ATSB will also analyse available recorded data, review pilot and maintenance records, and interview involved parties.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
