Narrabri’s posties now deliver on state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly electric trikes.

The ‘e-trikes’ are replacing the familiar two-wheel Honda postie bikes.

The new delivery trikes are being assessed for rollout across more routes in the region.

The trikes are recharged overnight, 10 hours on a 240volt socket, can travel at up to 50kmh and carry about 100 small parcels and up to 1200 letters.

Their roof will be a welcome magpie deterrent in the season.

Video footage from devices and sensors installed on the electric delivery vehicles -‘eDVs’ – help to provide safety analysis for the posties, while the vehicles also have a duress button which pinpoints the location of the driver in order to provide assistance in the case of an emergency or serious incident.

The narrow dimensions of the delivery trikes make the three-wheeled battery-powered vehicle perfect for letter/parcel deliveries via the footpath.

With the number of the Swiss-made electric delivery vehicles being rolled out across the country, Australia Post may end up as the biggest electric vehicle fleet operator in the nation.
