Receiving Narrabri Shire’s Senior Sportsperson of the Year award marks another successful milestone in the bowling journey of Dawn Armstrong.

The accolade honours Mrs Armstrong’s dedication to the sport and to Narrabri Bowling Club as well as her many achievements.

A committed bowler, she will be among a team to compete for the Senior fours title for the state at Tamworth in March.

Mrs Armstrong is the only inaugural member of the Narrabri Ladies Bowling Club and has been faithfully dedicated to the sport since she first started playing in 1957.

Recalling the early days of the ladies’ bowling club, she said there were 120 members when she first joined.

In the decades that have past since, she has served as president of the club for three separate terms as well as spending some time at the helm of the district.

While she celebrated her 90th birthday last year, she shows no signs of slowing down.

“I thoroughly enjoy what I do,” she said after receiving her Australia Day honour.

Bowls is among a raft of extensive involvements Mrs Armstrong enjoys in the Narrabri community.

Away from the green, Mrs Armstrong volunteers with Meals on Wheels, the Narrabri Show Society, Red Cross and the Narrabri Cake Decorators Association.

She attributes her longevity and energy to the many activities and organisations that keep her so busy.
