A councillor has voiced his worries about the condition of Mellburra Road which has been particularly impacted by adverse weather.

The issue was raised by Cr Greg Lamont who sought direction from council management on the best method on raising matters on behalf of constituents.

“Mellburra Road is in a dangerous state,” Cr Lamont told the meeting.

Cr Lamont noted the impact the condition of the road, which starts from Killarney Gap Road, is having on residents.

Deputy mayor Cathy Redding, who was chair of Tuesday’s meeting, outlined the options to raise matters.

She said councillors were able to follow up from customer service requests lodged with council.

Cr Lamont sought information on how community members could address issues directly to a council meeting. The only way for this to happen is for the matter to be on a business paper.

Councillors are able to introduce matters by way of a notice of motion included as part of a meeting’s business paper.

Cr John Clements said the issue was an example of why the committees of council should be reinstated.
