Firefighters from Narrabri Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a truck fire on the Newell Highway, south of Narrabri, just before 2am on Saturday morning.

Crews attended and found the rear trailer of a B double totally involved in fire with the blaze rapidly spreading to the front A trailer.

Fire attack crews got to work in breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

Fire and Rescue was assisted by NSW Rural Fire Service which supplied additional water due to the water supply issues associated with the incident being located on the edge of town.

Once extinguished, the truck’s load was identified to contain approx 28 pallets of bleach and other cleaning products which had ruptured due to the fire causing a large spill.

The incident was required to be rendered safe by specialised hazmat operators.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue has also thanked Boggabri Fire and Rescue which responded to assist in the incident and maintain fire coverage for Narrabri due to the Narrabri brigade’s second appliance being in Lismore on deployment.

Narrabri Shire Council has also been thanked for assisting with the means of machinery and traffic control.
