The Labor Party’s candidate for Parkes in the upcoming federal election recently hit the streets in Narrabri to talk to voters.

Jack Ayoub, who ran for the seat at the last federal election, met locals on Maitland Street before venturing further north the next day to Moree.

Mr Ayoub, of Coonabarabran, has also recently travelled across the western regions of the electorate, to Cobar and Broken Hill.

On his visit to Narrabri, Mr Ayoub referenced local concerns about the current alignment of the Inland Rail project.

He wants to see the project take its time to ensure the long-lasting segment of national infrastructure isn’t hastily built.

Speaking about broader, regional issues Mr Ayoub voiced concern with GP accessibility.

“No matter where we live in Australia, we should have access to a GP,” he said.

Mr Ayoub also referenced adversity being experienced by aged care workers, an issue which has featured in the reporting of national media in recent months.

“People in aged care and local services are absolute angels,” he said.

“Why are we not paying them more.”

Mr Ayoub is no stranger to adversity himself, losing his mother to cancer when he was a child. At 18-years-old, his father died, however, the Coonabarabran community rallied around him to ensure he was well supported following the tragic events. Thanks to this community support, Mr Ayoub was able to go to university in Sydney.

While no date has been set for the federal poll, it is likely to be held in early to mid May.
