Books will soon fly off the shelf after the Rotary Club of Narrabri launches its book sale in Maitland Street on Saturday.

The organisation will open the doors to its temporary book shop, a major fundraiser for Rotary, located next to Baguley’s Jewellers.

Reading interests of all tastes are covered, with the range including fiction and non-fiction as well as different genres in each section. There are also books for all ages, including some special interest items, as well as DVDs.

Rotarian Bruce Pyke who is helping to coordinate the club’s fundraiser said they could barely fit anymore books into the shop.

In addition to left-over items from their previous sale, the club has been buoyed by continued community support with donations of books since the last sale held in late 2020.

“There is definitely a good range here,” Mr Pyke said.

“It’s a good fundraiser for the club and the money raised is spent on local projects. It’s a good community service as well.”

The last book sale was a record-breaking success and raised more than $25,000.

The substantial sum raised enabled Rotary to complete its Brett’s Road to Recovery project in support of Brett Nolan and his quest to have a modified vehicle. A donation was also made to the Country Education Foundation of the Namoi.

Mr Pyke hopes this year is equally as successful.

The book sale has developed from a book section at a garage sale held at the showgrounds to the stand-alone sale in the Narrabri town centre.

Former Rotarian Bruce Ireland has supported the initiative by providing the Maitland Street shop free of charge. Club member Tim Logan provides the use of his warehouse for storage and Narrabri Farm Centre acts as a book donation point.

Rotary’s book sale will be open from Saturday, April 9. The closing date will be set depending on community interest. The shop will be open from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 12pm on Sunday.
