From 1am on Thursday, April 14, most venues across Queensland will be open to unvaccinated people as the state eases a raft of COVID-19 restrictions. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced hospitality and tourism venues will be open to “everyone regardless of vaccination status”. The venues include pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants, theme parks, casinos, weddings, showgrounds, galleries, libraries, museums and stadiums. However, vaccine requirements will remain in vulnerable settings such as hospitality, aged and disability care facilities, prisons, schools and early childhood centres. More than 95 per cent of Queenslanders aged over 12 are double dosed, which has sparked the easing of restrictions. Chief Health officer Dr John Gerrard said “the virus is not going to go away” and that vaccination is the key to protection. As our restrictions are gradually lifted, it will be the vaccination that is protecting us all. There is clear evidence that the state has passed the peak of the second wave of Omicron.
