Officer-in-charge of the Narrabri police sector, Robert Dunn, has been promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector.
Chief Insp Dunn, who oversees policing throughout the Narrabri Shire, was recently presented with his ‘crowns’ symbolising his elevation in the force.
A single crown is the rank insignia of the position.
The promotion in rank comes as Chief Insp Dunn marks 31 years as a police officer this month.
Chief Insp Dunn remembers the day he marched out of the police academy in Goulburn on April 26 vividly.
“It was sleeting. It was very typical of Goulburn weather,” he said.
“We had an indoor passing out ceremony.”
Following his graduation from the academy, Chief Insp Dunn spent time in the City of Sydney as a probationer before returning to the academy to complete his phase five.
As a junior, Chief Insp Dunn spent time on general and traffic duties in Surry Hills.
He returned to his hometown of Dubbo in 1995 and stayed there until 2004 when taking up a sergeant’s position in Moree.
He would later return home to Dubbo and back to Moree before coming to Narrabri as the officer-in-charge in March 2015.
Chief Insp Dunn reflected on the close-knit team of police he has managed in his seven years overseeing police operations in Narrabri Shire.
“I couldn’t be any prouder of the team here,” he said.
Policing aside, Chief Insp Dunn said he has enjoyed getting to know the community with his partner Ajarna and two children by his side.
“We have established some good, long-term friendships since settling in Narrabri,” he said.
“We have raised our kids here. One is in high school, the other in primary school. Narrabri has been a fantastic community to raise a family.
Chief Insp Dunn particularly praised Ajarna, who also serves as a police officer.
“Ultimately she is the one person who keeps me the most stable.”
