The Rotary Club of Narrabri’s pop-up book sale has started with a bang, following a successful opening weekend.

Bibliophiles filled the shop, located next to Baguley’s Jewellers, on its opening day on Saturday.

Almost $3000 was raised on Saturday alone, believed to be a record opening day for Rotary’s fundraising book sales.

Book sale coordinator Bruce Pyke said Rotary was heartened by the community’s continued support of the organisation.

“All of the money we raise here at the book sale gets spent locally,” he said.

“We’re grateful to the many volunteers who also contribute many hours in sorting books, setting up the shop and manning it while it is open.”

The previous sale raised more than $25,000, a record for the Rotary Club.

That money was put to good use, enabling the club to complete its Brett’s Road to Recovery project for Brett Nolan.

A donation was also made towards the Country Education Foundation of the Namoi.

The book sale is open from Mondays to Saturdays, with the exception of Good Friday this week.

Organisers hope to open the shop’s doors on Saturday this week as well as possibly for an hour or two on Easter Monday.

The entire duration of this year’s book sale will be dependent on community support.

The shop is a treasure trove of books, with some rare finds among some of the treasured items.

Some of these rare items include a series of books by Winston Churchill on the Second World War as well as a limited edition set of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy.
