Narrabri Shire Council is set to undertake widespread community consultation to examine the accessibility of childcare from birth to 14 in the region.
Narrabri Shire mayor Ron Campbell said council recognises that access to childcare is critical for local residents and the study is an important factor in supporting those needs.
“A recent report released by the Mitchell Institute for Education and Health Policy showed that families in regional areas are most at risk of suffering poor access,” he said.
“This childcare analysis will focus on current and future demand and what is available to address shortfalls in this area.”
Council has engaged childcare experts KU Children’s Services and Families at Work to conduct the childcare needs analysis which will include a whole community survey.
“The consultants will look at past and projected population data, undertake stakeholder services engagement and seek input from parents and carers to gauge gaps and identify opportunities,” Cr Campbell said.
Funding for the Narrabri Childcare Feasibility Study and Forward Planning has been provided by the NSW government through round eight of Resources for Regions.
The Resources for Regions program supports the ongoing prosperity of mining communities in regional NSW and improves the lives of people in mining-impacted communities.
