State Member for Barwon Roy Butler is part of a parliamentary committee tasked with reporting on speed limits and road safety in regional NSW.

The committee, referred to as the Joint Standing Committee on Road Safety, will look into the impact of speed limits and travel times on driver behaviour and safety, the impact of improved vehicle technology and road infrastructure, the use of variable speed limits and other related matters.

The committee has previously conducted inquiries in relation to mobile speed camera enforcement programs, support for rural and regional learner drivers and reducing trauma on local roads.

Mr Butler has encouraged people to have their say by making a submission to the inquiry.

“A lot has changed in drivers, cars and roads in the last five to six decades,” he said.

“It’s a good opportunity to look at speed limits and if they have kept up with a changing world.

“I have pushed for this inquiry since being a member of the Stay Safe committee.”

Submissions to the committee will close on July 5 and can be made online through the NSW Parliament website.
