Three bright young locals have joined the Narrabri Shire Youth Council.

The appointments of Mietta Smith, Jesse Weekes and Piper Williams were endorsed at the Narrabri Shire Council’s most recent ordinary meeting.

“I’d like to welcome them onboard,” said NSC mayor Ron Campbell.

“Volunteering is what country people do and it’s great to see the youth coming through and to see them stepping up.

“It’s a wonderful thing they’re doing and it’s a wonderful experience for them to have.”

The Narrabri Shire Youth Council provides a forum for young people within the LGA to express their views on important issues affecting youth as well as provide advice and input into initiatives and programs.

The new appointments follow the resignation of Gemma Ferguson and Charlotte Penberthy, who were both thanked for their contribution.

The meeting’s business paper noted the resignation of Gemma because she has moved from the Narrabri region, and Charlotte because university commitments have significantly increased.

Councillors voted to amend the terms of reference to allow the appointment of three new councillors. During the meeting, Cr Tiemens suggested it would be great for councillors to collaborate more with the Youth Council. Councillors present agreed this was a great idea.
