Narrabri Show Society is turning its attention to the planning of next year’s event.

A new committee will be formed at the organisation’s annual general meeting on Monday, August 1.

The society is encouraging more community involvement in the show and will open the committee positions for nominations.

Current secretary Bec Cope said the current positions had been reviewed, with new positions created.

“We have created new positions to make the secretary’s role more attractive to the wider community and get more community member involvement,” Ms Cope said.

Ms Cope has overseen the previous two shows as secretary and is stepping down after taking on more responsibilities with the state’s peak show body, the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW.

“As we are a growing organisation, we are trying to attract more volunteers,” Ms Cope said.

For those interested in taking up a position with the society, Ms Cope assured there are plenty of experienced people ready to welcome and assist newcomers to being part of what is one of the district’s most important events.

And while Ms Cope is stepping out of the secretary’s role, she too is ready to assist incoming committee people to ensure a smooth transition.

The roles up for election at the coming annual general meeting are president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary/treasurer, publicity officer, entertainment coordinator, sponsorship coordinator and trade coordinator.

These roles are in addition to general committee members.

Remuneration is available to the main executive positions of president, secretary and treasurer on completion of the term served.

All positions are fundamental for the running of the Narrabri Show, which has been an annual highlight of the district calendar since the first show was held in 1876.

The annual general meeting is being held at the Tourist Hotel on Monday, August 1, from 7pm.

For information on the positions or to apply, contact Ms Cope on 0427 734 894 or email [email protected].

Applications will close on July 26.
