Australian short film Giants, which was filmed over 18 months in Narrabri, is among the nominees at the 2022 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards.

Giants was recently showcased in Narrabri as part of the short film festival Flickerfest which visited The Crossing Theatre.

Directed by Sydney’s Eddy Bell, the film magnificently portrayed the hardships of a family struggling with implications of drought in rural Australia.

The movie was produced by Narrabri’s Steven Rees and filmed at his parent’s property, ‘Murrumbilla’, the adjoining property also named ‘Murrumbilla’, which is the home of Bones and Jenny Falkiner, and the 50th Galloping Gully Polocrosse Club carnival.

The film was inspired by Mr Rees, a Narrabri High School councillor, who co-produced the film and his conversations with ex-Armidale School buddy and director Mr Bell.

Giants is a nominee for the AACTA Award for Best Short Film.

Voting was conducted between June 24 and August 1 to determine award nominees.

A second round of voting involving AACTA members will be held between October 24 and November 7 to decide the AACTA winners.
