Australia’s politics are so ho-hum compared to many other countries. Italy has a bewildering cycle of elections, and now, with the September national poll looming, voters are being invited to elect the Eurosceptic Sovereign and Popular Italy Party. Among its candidates is 95-year-old former actress Gina Lollabrigida. Its policies include ‘no weapons supply to Ukraine.’ Other Italian high-profile political candidates in recent years have included 70-year-old ‘Italy’s leading porn movie star’, Ilana Staller, architect Renzo Piano, 84, and Gregorio de Falcon, 57, the coastguard official who reportedly shouted ‘get back on board’ to the captain of the sinking cruise ship Costa Concordia when it ran aground and sank in 2012.
