Rain threatened the day’s program of family events at the Maules Creek hall centenary celebration on Saturday, but heavy falls held off and an occasional light shower made no difference to a great day for hundreds of enthusiastic centenary celebrants.

Current and former Maules Creek district residents enjoyed the day with visitors returning to their home community from across the region – and as far as Gladstone, Queensland.

Family fun activities were the order of the day, with the inaugural Maules Creek Gift foot race, a sheaf tossing competition and other entertainment. But the 100-year-old hall, the community hub, nowadays renovated and expanded with a new supper room and adjacent amenities block, was the centre of attention with displays of memorabilia and family memories recalling the decades of service it has provided to the local community.
