Debbie Gleeson is Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s consistency singles champion for 2022 after winning the competition’s final last Thursday.

Gleeson challenged Cindy Neil at the John McNamara Owen Campey Green and won the match 156-129 across 29 ends.

It was an entertaining contest that included seven lead changes and saw the champion run away with the victory late in the game.

Gleeson started the match with a handicap of negative three but shrugged that off to nearly even the score by the third end when Neil led 13-12.

Neil held onto a one-shot lead at the completion of the fifth end as she led 23-22, however, the first of the game’s seven lead changes occurred on the seventh end when Gleeson went ahead 33-32.

Neil regained the lead on the next end to make the score 39-36, but Gleeson went back ahead on the 10th end when she scored a 10 to make the score 50-45.

She then scored a nine on the 11th end to take a commanding 59-46 lead, but Neil rallied and outscored Gleeson 29 shots to 11 across the next four ends to be ahead 75-70 after 15 ends.

The contest remained tight between two of the club’s form bowlers as Gleeson led 78-77 after 16 ends, and Neil was in front 88-87 after 18 ends.

Gleeson then regained the lead on the 19th end, and this time she would not surrender it again.

The score was 98-97 after 20 ends and then 115-10 after 23 ends as the game hung in the balance.

However, Gleeson outscored Neil 33-17 across the next five ends to establish an unassailable lead and make the score 148-127.

She was then crowned champion on the 29th end when she scored an eight to win the game 156-129.

Narrabri Bowling Club will host more ladies’ bowls this Thursday when a Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club first-round match in the presidents pairs is played.
