Narrabri Fire and Rescue responded to a rescue incident 18 kilometres from Narrabri on the Maules Creek Road after a car had become trapped in flood water on Friday afternoon.

Crews were on-scene within 20 minutes of the Triple Zero (000) call and found a Ford Territory submerged in a causeway with 800mm of fast-flowing water surrounding the vehicle.

Whilst awaiting the NSW SES crews to arrive on scene, firefighters observed the vehicle beginning to shift and become unstable with the fast-running water, so the decision was made to enter the water and utilise the four-wheel drive tanker to pull alongside and reduce the velocity of water pushing onto the vehicle and extricate the driver through the passenger side window and return him to safety.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue thanked the other agencies which responded to assist at the incident.

Emergency services have again pleaded with the public to avoid driving around road closures and through flood water.

This is the second flood rescue Narrabri Fire and Rescue has attended in as many months at the same location.
