The mayors of flood-affected local government areas, including Narrabri Shire, have met with federal Emergency Management Minister Murray Watt.

Mr Watt, a Queensland Senator, visited Moree to discuss assistance that could be provided in the recovery phase following last month’s major flood event.

Joining Mr Watt was federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton, Narrabri Shire mayor Ron Campbell, Moree Plains Shire mayor Mark Johnson and Gunnedah Shire mayor Jamie Chaffey.

Mr Coulton said he was pleased to bring Mr Watt to Moree to see the damage first hand, highlighting the critical need for Category D disaster assistance.

“The Gunnedah and Narrabri communities have also been devastated by flooding, so it was great to get the mayors together during Senator Watt’s visit to discuss how we can best help them recover,” Mr Coulton said.

“Most significant is the need for urgent funding to repair water-damaged roads, not just in these three shires, but across the entire Parkes electorate.”
