Narrabri Shire Council is seeking funds from the NSW government to engage a resilience officer following repeated major flooding across the shire.
During his presentation of a mayoral minute at last Tuesday afternoon’s council meeting, mayor Ron Campbell said council had sent a letter to Deputy Premier Paul Toole and Minister for Flood Recovery Steph Cooke to seek support for a three-year secondment of the position.
Across NSW, 15 local officers have been engaged. However, Narrabri did not feature on the list.
Shire general manager Rob Williams provided additional information to the meeting, saying the role would be greater than just focusing on the recovery from major flooding.
“It is also to allow us to work far more closely with our communities and sectors of our communities to build their own business continuity planning,” Mr Williams said.
