Nineteen-year-old Brayden Varcoe is continuing the family tradition of joining the Fire and Rescue fraternity.
Following in the footsteps of his pop, grandad, mum and his uncle, Brayden is about to head to Armidale to finish his basic training.
He will complete two blocks of four days from November 28 to December 2 and then another four days from December 12-16.
Once he has finished his basic training, Brayden can study further models on a volunteer basis.
Brayden came to live in Boggabri in July 2021 after spending three years in Parkes at the Parkes Rural Fire Service headquarters.
He joined Parkes Rural Fire Service when he was 16, and after turning 19, he decided he wanted to turn firefighting into a career.
He made the move to Boggabri, where his grandfather Brian King is the local Fire and Rescue captain.
Brayden’s mum has been with Fire and Rescue for 27 years and is currently serving at Wangi Wangi.
When Brayden is not on duty with Fire and Rescue is hoping to secure a job at the local Boggabri pool.
When asked what he thought the future holds, he replied: “All I have ever wanted to do is care for and help people.
“Further down the track, I hope to become involved in prevention and education in the community.”
