What’s going on and who’s next? In recent times we have seen bank branch closures announced in Wee Waa, more recently the Westpac branch in Moree and now the ANZ branch in Gunnedah. There are identical stories in many centres. These are not inconsequential towns – they are busy engine rooms of economic activity – but far-off, city bean counters have decided that this is ‘the bush’ – let the country folks go to the branch in the next suburb just down the road to do their banking.
