Two Narrabri organisations have been praised for the important role they play in the community.

The discussion came about as a result of the groups – ADFAS Narrabri and the Country Education Foundation of the Namoi – seeking support from Narrabri Shire Council.

The support for each organisation was tabled separately at the December meeting of council.

ADFAS sought concessional use of The Crossing Theatre to enable it to hold its arts lectures at the facility.

The lectures have grown in popularity, with visitors frequently travelling from Moree and Gunnedah to attend the ADFAS organised events.

The organisation’s request was supported by councillors.

The Country Education Foundation of the Namoi also sought support so the organisation could stage its annual presentation event in January.

Councillors also unanimously backed supporting the Education Foundation’s request.

Deputy mayor Darrell Tiemens praised both groups when each matter was brought to the attention of councillors.

Cr Tiemens praised ADFAS for the quality lectures it provides Narrabri, and for growing interest in the arts across the North West.

Speaking about the Country Education Foundation, Cr Tiemens said he had been exposed to the organisation’s great work through his involvement with the Rotary Club of Narrabri.

Cr Tiemens said the Education Foundation went far beyond supporting students move away to study at university.

He said the foundation’s support spanned a range of education levels.

Cr Tiemens said he couldn’t speak highly enough of the amount of good the Education Foundation does.

“This is a small amount considering the amount of benefit it has to children,” Cr Tiemens said.

Cr Rohan Boehm echoed similar sentiments about the Education Foundation’s work.
