Wee Waa greyhound racing trainer Colin Anderson celebrated a pair of victories at a Gunnedah Greyhound Racing Club TAB meeting last week when Head Them Up and Our Blue Rose charged home quickest in their respective races.
Head Them Up was the first of four Anderson-trained dogs in action at the Thursday afternoon meeting, and the one-year-old secured an almost five-length victory.
He lined up from box eight in the 431-metre grade five race, which was the fourth of the day, and quickly overtook the John Barrass-trained Bourdain (box two) that had jumped out quickest.
Head Them Up then established a huge lead from the Lindsay Davis-trained Okey (box six), and those two flew away to establish themselves as the clear frontrunners with about 250 metres left to run.
Head Them Up entered the home straight with a comfortable lead, and he was not threatened as he charged away to a dominant four-and-three-quarter-length win over Okey.
The win was Head Them Up’s fifth in 11 starts for Anderson and his third in his past five starts. He has raced to top-two finishes in seven of his 11 career starts and looks set to enjoy a successful journey in the sport.
He has already earned $7650 in prizemoney, $2000 of which came from Thursday’s victory.
Head Them Up’s kennelmate, Our Blue Rosa, made it two from two for Anderson later in the afternoon when she raced to victory in race eight, a 340-metre grade five event.
The two-year-old wore the green vest and jumped positively out of box six.
The Len Haaring-trained Arrogant Benji (box seven) jumped best and landed two lengths in front of Robert Ryan-trained Werina Shadow (box five), which was slightly in front of Our Blue Rosa.
Arrogant Benji still held onto the two-length advantage at the point of the corner, but Our Blue Rosa and Werina Shadow overtook him down the home straight.
Our Blue Rosa charged home the fastest of the trio and managed to get herself past the finish post a length and a half in front of Werina Shadow, which edged out Arrogant Benji for second place.
That was Our Blue Rosa’s 19th start for Anderson since she debuted in June last year. The win was her fourth, and she has now raced to eight top-three finishes.
She picked up $1500 in prizemoney from that event, which took her career earnings to $7530.
Anderson had two more greyhounds in action at that meeting on Thursday.
Money’s On jumped from box two in race nine and finished sixth in the 340-metre grade five event.
Aria Herrera was also in action in a 340-metre grade five event, which was the 11th race on the 12-race card, and she finished seventh after lining up from box three.
Bellata trainer Kevin Campbell had one dog in action at the meeting, which was Charming Spirit.
The three-year-old jumped from box two in the 340-metre grade four/five event, and he ran home to a fourth-place finish, five lengths behind the winner.
