CSIRO and NSW Department of Primary Industries staff gathered at the Australian Cotton Research Institute to mark National Reconciliation Week on Monday last week.

CSIRO spokesperson, Melissa Lewis, said that while the CSIRO traditionally observed National Reconciliation Week, this was the first time the organisation had held a combined event with the CSIRO Cotton Research Institute, the CSIRO Australia Telescope and the Department of Primary Industry.

“It was our biggest yet,” said Mrs Lewis.

Ninety people attended, including six indigenous guests from the Wee Waa community. The attendees shared a barbecue lunch and traditional damper made by guest, Deborah Combo.

Indigenous staff-member Bernadette Melton opened the lunch with a presentation outlining the theme of this year’s Reconciliation Week, ‘Grounded in Truth: Walk Together with Courage’.
