Boggabri and Narrabri both went into Sunday’s round five ladies league tag clash winless and determined to open their account as they met one another at Jubilee Oval.

The two sides had been improving week in and week out across the first four weeks of the 2023 Group 4 Rugby League campaign, and they produced one of their best performances each when they met for the first time this season.

It was the hosts that got the job done as the Boggi Roos held on to win 12-10.

The Boggabri ladies went into the half-time break with a 12-0 lead after former Bluebirds duo Tashanny Clark and Mikaela Woodward scored a try each and Cassidy Morley kicked two goals.

Narrabri’s form player of the 2023 competition, Mia Gould, scored the first try of the second stanza and then converted it to make the score 12-6 with about 15 minutes to go, which became 12-10 when Tyanna Gaydon scored a runaway try late in the game.

The Bluebirds were on a roll at that stage, however, the Boggi Roos held on to win the match by two points to earn the two competition points.

Morley was one of the home side’s best as she picked up three Group 4 best and fairest points, while Gould was awarded two and Boggabri’s Kaiya Grace-Hendrie earned one.

That victory kicked off a clean sweep for the hosts as the Kangaroos won all three grades against the Blues.

The Boggabri reserve grade side won 36-10 before the Kangaroos won the first grade contest 46-22.

In reserve grade, Liam Doyle bagged a double for Boggabri and teammates Jake Byrne, Bailey Lennox, Jayde Campbell, Bailey Keeler and Alsea Kaitala all scored a try each. Campbell kicked three goals and Leslie Toomey slotted one.

For Narrabri, James Scott and Kaleb Mowle scored a try each and Mowle slotted a conversion.

Lennox earned three Group 4 best and fairest points and Byrne picked up one, while two went to Narrabri Blues’ Luke Shields.

In first grade, Kaylan Murray scored four tries in Boggabri’s win and also picked up three best and fairest points.

Teammate Robert Doolan scored two tries and kicked five goals, and Boggabri’s other tries were scored by Dylan Lake, Niall Blewitt and Thomas Bruce.

Narrabri’s four tries were shared between Jed Smith, Jeff Harvey, Kalab McMillan and Bailey Toomey, while Trey Doolan kicked three goals.

Narrabri’s Chris Hunt picked up two best and fairest points and the one went to Boggabri’s Nick Millar.
