The community and sporting achievements of three people from Narrabri Shire have been praised in the NSW Parliament.
Member for Barwon, Roy Butler tabled community recognition statements congratulating Bruce Gray, Wee Waa, and Sid Harvey and Bernard O’Connor, Narrabri, on recent successes.
Mr Gray was recently recognised as the 2023 Wee Waa Lions Senior Citizen of the Year.
“Bruce has lived in Wee Waa his entire life and is well known for his generosity and endless volunteering, whilst still carrying out his own farm and agriculture work,” Mr Butler said in his statement.
“Bruce has been heavily involved in most community organisations including school committees, the tennis club, Wee Waa Hospital board member to name a few.
“Bruce has been a Lions Club member, holding various positions for 20 plus years. I congratulate Bruce on receiving this year’s Senior Citizen of the Year and thank him for the years of valuable commitment to his community.”

Sid and Bernard were selected in the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association (NSWCHSSA) under 18 boys’ rugby union squad after outstanding efforts for Northwest in a three-day carnival in Newcastle.
“Along with their teammates, they finished up placing third after winning four of their five games across the three days,” Mr Butler said.
“Sid was then named player of the tournament.
“Sid and Bernard have been playing at club level in the Narrabri Junior Rugby Club’s under 18s side.
“The team has so far played two matches in the 2023 North West Regional Youth Rugby where they won both games.
“I congratulate Sid and Bernard on their selection for the NSW Combined Schools Sports Association and wish them all the best for their future games.”
