Wee Waa Fire and Rescue crews were paged to reports of a truck fire near Pilliga last Wednesday night.
Firefighters arrived to find the back trailer of a B-double carting 25-tonnes of cotton seed well alight.
Crews got to work in breathing apparatus using foam to try to extinguish the fire.
It took almost two hours before crews were able to knock the fire down enough to stop active fire on top of the of the seed.
Narrabri Shire Council was contacted and attended with a loader to spread out the seed for the Rural Fire Service for final extinguishment.
Fire and Rescue crews were able to hand the scene back to the RFS just after 1am and crews returned to the station around 2am.
The driver of the prime mover was able to unhook the back trailer and move the front trailer and prime mover to a safe area.
