There were three Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club 2023 season club pairs quarter-final matches were played at the Narrabri Bowling Club last week on Thursday, August 3.

Carol Demamiel, who was a sub for Val Falkiner, and Dawn Armstrong defeated Sue Solomon and Debbie Gleeson 19-11.

Solomon and Gleeeson were ahead 6-3 after seven ends.

Demamiel and Armstrong scored 16 shots to five across the last 11 ends to score an eight-shot victory and go through to the semi-finals.

Helen Woodward and Marie Redman beat Lyn Wedesweiler, who was a sub for Berice Eather, and Ronnie Dewar 30-11.

Redman and Woodward won the first three ends to lead six shots to nothing.

Dewar and Wedesweiler then scored nine shots across the next four ends to take a 9-6 lead.

However, Redman and Woodward regrouped and they scored 24 shots to two across next nine ends to win the game 30-11.

Kay Carolan and Mary Wheeler beat Jan Etheridge and Janet Coleman 22-9.

Etheridge and Coleman led 8-7 after nine ends,. but Carolan and Wheeler then scored 15 shots to one across the last nine ends to win the game 22-9.

Social bowls was also contested last Thursday.

In three-bowl pairs, Trish Allison and Di Chessells outscored Janice Foxe and Lyn Tuckey 25-10, and in three-bowl triples, Eva Sadler played swinging lead and with Stewart Coleman and Anthony Welchman beat Doug Mackereth and Bill Rosewarn 16-15.

A trophy day will be played this Thursday, August 10.

Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2023/24 men’s campaign will continue this Saturday, August 12, with club singles games.

Fixtures are as follows:

Richard Little v David Field (marker – Bill Rosewarn); Ian Macmillan v Scott Dewar (marker – Col Armstrong); Len Ryan v Steve Daskey (marker – Kevin Baguley).
