Wee Waa United Football Club hosted a junior disco at the Wee Waa Bowling Club recently, with attendees busting moves on the dance floor and loving the glow sticks and paint.
“Our junior disco is becoming an event that not only the kids get excited about but also the soccer club’s committee,” said one of the committee’s dedicated organisers Penny Vella.
“This year a change in venue to the Wee Waa Bowling Club saw us increase our ticket numbers to 100 and we still sold out.
“The kids had a great time dancing to tunes by DJ Simmo, playing games, and getting in front of the ever so popular photo booth.
“In a small town it’s important to keep that sense of community and give the kids something fun to look forward to. We are fortunate enough as a club to have the resources, volunteers and support necessary to hold events such as these.
“You don’t have to be part of WWFC to join in either, these events are about involving everyone.”
Penny said young players had been inspired by the magnificent performance of the mighty Matildas at the World Cup.
The team of stars became the first Australian football side (men’s or women’s) to make the semi finals at a World Cup and captivated the nation with their skills and sportsmanship.
“Soccer is defiantly buzzing at the moment with the Women’s World Cup on,” said Penny.
“All the hype, excitement and support around the Matildas definitely inspires our young ones.
“As a nation we are doing a terrific job in supporting women in soccer, and as a club with 50 per cent of our junior players being young girls, we hope they feel just as supported and continue to achieve great things within the sport,” added Penny.
