SES responds to incidents after wind wreaks havoc

Narrabri State Emergency Service unit responded to incidents after a storm cell and wind lashed the town last Wednesday.

Among the callouts attended by local SES members was a trampoline which had become lodged on the roof of a Boundary Street property.

The emergency service was also assisted by Narrabri Fire and Rescue in responding to a collapsed carport.

Crews also attended incidents relating to fallen trees.

Officially, the Bureau of Meteorology recorded wind gusts of up to 83 kilometres per hour at its Narrabri Airport weather station, however, wind gusts are believed to have reached close to 100 kmh in some locations.

Rainfall of 12.8mm was recorded by the bureau, making it Narrabri’s most significant rainfall event in recent months.

Just 2.2mm was recorded in September, 4.4mm in August and 10.2mm in July.

SES units in Wee Waa and Boggabri also responded to local incidents.

In the North Western zone, which includes units in Narrabri Shire, 28 incidents were recorded.

The most incidents from Wednesday’s weather event were recorded in the northern zone which includes the Hunter Valley, Newcastle and Mid North Coast.

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns said most incidents were for fallen trees and leaking and wind damaged roofs.
