Year 12 students Piper Williams and Charlie Cooke were able to see first hand what a working shearing shed looks like.
They have been studying wool as a part of their farm product study in agriculture and were pleased to be able to put some of the theory they have learnt into action.
Yarrie Lake sheep farmers, Paul and Jimmy Smith helped the girls to have a go at flipping and dragging out sheep, as well as skirting a fleece.
Expert wool classer Paul spoke to them about the testing that is undertaken once the fleece leaves the property to access the micron, vegetable matter content and yield.
He was able to give first hand insight into the values of each test and the prices that are received for a quality fleece. It was a wonderful experience in which the girls were extremely grateful for the time in which both Paul and Jimmy gave to show them and the hands on experience of a working sheep farm.
