The popular Moree on a Plate food festival will receive a welcome boost as organisers plan a milestone event in 2024.
Next year will mark the festival’s 20th anniversary, with festivities being boosted by $20,000.
The support will come from the NSW government’s Regional Events Fund.
Moree on a Plate vice president Georgina Poole said the committee was extremely grateful for the funding and that it would contribute enormously to the festival’s strength attracting tourists to the region.
“Moree on a Plate is an opportunity to showcase the fantastic community that Moree is, and over the past 20 years has evolved into a significant tourism drawcard for the region,” Ms Poole said.
“This funding will now allow us to undertake a nation-wide marketing campaign to celebrate the festival’s 20-year anniversary in May 2024 and attract even more visitors to our wonderful part of the world,” Ms Poole said.
Moree on a Plate is one of regional NSW’s most beloved food festivals, incorporating a diversity of producers from across the region and beyond.
Organisers again celebrated a successful festival in 2023, with the addition of well-known restaurateur and Australian culinary ambassador Christine Mansfield.
The 2023 festival attracted thousands of visitors and it is hoped next year’s milestone event will be a bigger celebration again.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said the funding would help the Moree on a Plate committee prepare for a mouth-watering weekend of festivities and showcase of produce.
“This is a wildly popular event that brings Moree to life each year,” Mr Marshall said.
“The funding will be used to help the volunteer organising committee with marketing and promotion material, ready for next May’s big event.
“It will be an action packed few days that will attract thousands of visitors and fuel local businesses and the local economy.
“Local growers, brewers, chefs and bakers will be among next year’s line up with no shortage of entertainment either.”
Mr Marshall said the funding was secured under the Regional Events Fund, designed to increase tourism and boost the local economy in regional areas.
