It was a tough but unanimous decision from both judges of the Narrabri Courier, for the second annual ‘Christmas Tree Shop’ competition, but the creative and dazzling submission from Esteem Kids Group after-school care has taken out a well-deserved first place.

Well done, clever kids, your vibrant and personal handshape cuttings and merry Christmas messages of love and hope were delightfully accented by the naughty/nice list containing the names of all contributors.

People’s choice went to the lovely folk at Whiddon Community Care, and judges could see why, as the submission truly had the Christmas flair.

Twenty-five trees were submitted by community members, schools, businesses, and individuals to this year’s Christmas Tree pop-up shop, brought to us by Monterey Café proprietor Jenny Wilson.

Locals were invited to visit and vote for their favourite tree for a gold coin donation during December, with all proceeds going to Meals on Wheels.

Helen Stoltenberg, a Meals on Wheels committee member and shop volunteer was thankful for the fundraiser proceeds from community voters, and quite relieved to leave the judging to The Courier.

“The judging went very well; they both took a considerable length of time to pick the best tree,” said Helen.

“It’s marvelous to see the ideas that people have, and I especially love seeing how creative the littlies are.”

Dennise Simshauser of Lisa Dee’s boutique’s beautiful Christmas fairy tree was also a stunning contender, featuring lights interwoven in layers upon layers of tulle, so make sure you stop into her store and check it out.

Each winner will receive a $50 ‘Why Leave Town’ gift card to spend shopping locally at a Narrabri store.

Well done, and Merry Christmas Narrabri, from The Courier.

Kavina Kumar and Wanda Dunnet of the Narrabri Courier made their list of Christmas tree winning criteria and checked it twice.
