Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens has invited residents and visitors to join in and celebrate Australia Day in Narrabri Shire.

January 26 will see a full agenda of special events, barbecues and entertainment in the grounds of Narrabri and Boggabri swimming pools and at the Namoi Echo Museum, Wee Waa.

Community awards will be announced and at least eight local residents will officially become Australian citizens at a special ceremony.

Narrabri Shire’s Australia Day ambassador Clyde Campbell AM, founder of the Shake It Up Foundation, will be guest at each shire centre’s events. (Our Ambassador, page 4).

“Australia Day is a great occasion to celebrate everything we value about living in Australia,” Cr Tiemens said.

“It is an important day for all of us – a day to reflect that we are part of the ‘lucky country’ – even though it is a ‘mixed bag’ for some in some aspects, overall our country is the envy of the world and many people would love to live here.”

On Australia Day, Australian citizenship will be formalised at a ceremony in Narrabri for eight local residents.

There will be entertainment for kids and barbecues at the three town centres and free entry to all shire swimming pools.

The program at the Narrabri Aquatic Centre will see the Australia Day shire community awards presented and new citizens welcomed. A family fun day will get underway from 12pm.

At Wee Waa, Australia Day activities will be hosted by the Namoi Echo Museum starting with a free breakfast at 7am, followed by the Australia Day celebration at 8am and entertainment.

A free sausage sizzle at 1pm and entertainment will feature at the Boggabri swimming pool.
