The Courier readers might have previously spotted the bright purple cotton module wrap featured with this article, or perhaps sighted it in a field during the last picking season.
Cotton Growers Services and Plant and Pick Spares joined forces to introduce the wrap to growers and contractors with the aim of offering an alternative and quality product.
Wrap is vital when it comes to protecting cotton from contamination and maintaining the quality and integrity of the popular natural fibre.
Chief executive officer at CGS Steve Ainsworth said the introduction of the Australian designed and tested PPS Cotton Module Wrap was welcomed in 2023 with much interest during the picking season.
He said several years of product development and field testing meant the PPS Cotton Module Wrap was put through its paces, and it performed well in diverse field conditions using a range of differing machinery set ups.
“We have had some very positive feedback from growers, picking contractors, transport operators and especially ginning companies,” said Mr Ainsworth.
“It is pleasing to see the PPS team’s product development program culminate in such a successful product introduction which highlighted the ease of use, the durability and the reliability of the product.
“In 2023 around 80,000 cotton modules were produced using the product which was a significant commercial introduction to Australian cotton growers,” added Mr Ainsworth.
The wrap’s success is a win-win for cotton communities with CGS and PPS weaving a generous initiative together to help towns like Wee Waa grow and thrive.
“CGS and PPS were delighted to be able to present the cotton industries Cotton Grower Associations funding to support local cotton community projects which tallied up to $37,697 for the season. This initiative was funded from the proceeds of cotton module wrap sales for last season and I am pleased to confirm that this initiative will continue for the 2024 season,” said Mr Ainsworth.
CGS operates in all cotton growing regions of NSW, Queensland and from its new operations bases in Katherine in the Northern Territory and Kununurra in Western Australia.
