Many Narrabri people will be surprised to discover a distillery on their doorstep which produces a world-renowned agave spirit, Asp in the style of Mezcal (tequila’s cousin).
This was the case when proprietors Stephen Beale and Rosemary Smith of Black Snake Distillery opened their intimate bar with visiting barman Julian Hulbert from Athletic Bar Sawtell in November 2022.
Guests enjoyed cocktails and Mexican style food plus an informative talk about the history of mezcal and Black Snake’s harvesting, roasting and distilling process.
Fast forward to 2024, with several awards including the Harvey Norman Delicious award for ‘Alcohol in a Bottle’ 2023, and the couple’s special agave spirit Pechuga named on Nick Ryan’s Weekend Australian top 20 spirits list.
Now it’s time for another bar takeover.
Founder of Agave Cartel, Reece Griffiths, accompanied by North Bondi Fish bar manager Jorge Galdo Porca and head barman Gustavo Rossi, will be serving cocktails including margaritas and palomas on Saturday, February 3.
With two sessions running from 6pm-8pm and 8pm-10pm, this is a special event not to be missed!
