Development plans have been lodged for the construction of serviced apartments and commercial development in Boggabri’s town centre.
The proposed $12 million project will involve the demolition of a building on the corner of Merton and Brent Streets.
The proponent of the development is the region’s largest employer and mine operator, Whitehaven Coal.
Redevelopment works would be conducted in multiple stages and would also incorporate the adjoining The Vault building.
Stage one of the development would see The Vault reactivated, with upgrades, including an outdoor eating area.
Subsequent stages would involve the construction of residential development, consisting of 23 units, construction of office space, as well as necessary car parking and landscaping works.
Plans lodged through the NSW Planning Portal show apartments varying in size from studios to three-bedroom units.
“The aim of this development is to create mixed use development. The proposal is appropriate for the site and is commensurate in scale, height and articulation within the Boggabri area and considers the locality’s character and building heritage,” development plans state.
“The built form is influenced by the natural environment, taking cues from the materials, patterns, colours and forms of the local land, region.
“A mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments is provided to meet the needs of the community for a diverse range of housing stock.
“By providing the residential accommodation in an integrated mixed use development, the opportunity for social interaction has been greatly enhanced.
“Together with the provision of extensive resident’s communal spaces and facilities, this affords a further enhanced living environment to enrich the living experience of residents.”
