I am back and I want to extend a big thank you to deputy mayor Brett Dickinson for his stewardship as acting mayor during my leave.
March promises to be an exciting month for Narrabri Shire, with a calendar brimming with events that celebrate our community and its talents.
A highlight is the upcoming CREATE Festival 2024, kicking off on March 8.
For 16 days, Narrabri Shire will transform into a bustling hub of creativity and innovation.
This year’s festival promises an array of activities, from craft shops and galleries to exhibitions and creative workshops, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
We’re particularly thrilled about the return of NarraBRIGHT on March 15.
This spectacular evening will light up Narrabri’s CBD with stunning projections by Illuminart, live music, entertainment, and a variety of activities catered to all ages.
It’s an event that truly showcases the spirit of our community.
For more details, I encourage you to visit the council’s website.
In conjunction with the vibrant activities of CREATE, we will also celebrate the NSW Seniors Festival on March 14 at the Narrabri RSL’s Auditorium Room.
This event is a wonderful opportunity to honour our senior residents, with the announcement of the Narrabri Shire Senior of the Year, a luncheon, and a mini aged care expo.
This celebration is a testament to the strength and vitality of our senior community, made possible through the collaboration of council, local organisations, and aged care providers.
I invite our senior residents to join us for this free event.
To RSVP to this free event, please visit TryBooking at www.trybooking.com/CPCWK or call council’s community development team on (02) 6799 6866.
Our commitment to the wellbeing and safety of our community remains paramount, as evidenced by the recent closure of the Boggabri waste transfer station.
The discovery of suspected asbestos-containing materials required immediate action, and I want to acknowledge the patience and understanding of the Boggabri community during this period.
I’d like to acknowledge the work of council’s waste manager as well as the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) who worked collaboratively in the investigation and containment of the material.
While the transfer station is closed, we have ensured alternative waste disposal options are available for residents. Updates on this matter can be found on the council’s website and Facebook page.
In closing, I look forward to catching up with you at the shared events and celebrations that March brings.
These should not only enrich our community life but also reinforce the bonds that make Narrabri Shire such a great place to live.
Together, let’s embrace the opportunities to connect, celebrate, and create.
