This Friday is International Stand Up to Bullying Day which is observed twice a year – the last Friday of the month in February and in the third Friday in November. The observations in February are a part of the anti-bullying week which aims to create empathy and end bullying and harassment. Bullying can have lasting effects on a person’s psyche. International Stand Up To Bullying Day emerged from the acts of two Nova Scotian students Travis Price and David Shepherd who stood up and protested when a fellow student was picked on for wearing a pink shirt. They bought 50 pink shirts at a discount store and asked their classmates to wear the pink shirts the following day, which created a ‘sea of pink’ to support the bullied student.
