Narrabri Bowling Club bowlers were in action both home and away across the weekend as they continued to get back into the swing of the 2023/24 season following the Christmas and New Year break across December and January.

There was one mixed pairs match played at Narrabri’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green on Saturday, which saw Lyn Tuckey and Graham Rose defeat Kay Carolan and Richard Little 24 shots to 12. Carolan and Little got off to a great start and led 7-3 after six ends, but Tuckey and Rose claimed the next nine ends to establish a dominant 20-7 lead. Tucky and Rose then went on to win the game across 21 ends.

A combined Narrabri Bowling Club and Wee Waa Bowling Club women’s pennants team travelled to Tamworth City Bowling Club on Saturday where they took on West Tamworth Sports and Bowling Club in the Region 3 division three playoff final.

With a spot in the NSW state playoffs on the line, West Tamworth were too good on the day as the hosts defeated Narrabri on both rinks by a combined score of 49 shots to 28. Lisa Pillar, Kay Dewson, Janice Foxe and Melissa Allen went down 23-15 against West Tamworth’s Terry-Ann Fergusson, Gail Silcock, Mareece Guest and Zoe Stewart, and Lorraine Scott, Debbie Gleeson, Lyn Wedesweiler and Dot Dewson were beaten 26-13 by West Tamworth’s Andrea Smith, Carolynn Whitten, Cheryl Schipp and Sherilee Stewart.

The opening round of the 2023/24 season open gender pennants grade five competition will be contested in Narrabri this Saturday, with Narrabri to challenge Lightning Ridge from 11am.

The Narrabri teams are as follows:
Scott Dewar, Stuart Coleman, Len Ryan and Col Armstrong; Tony Redman, Eva Sadler, Di Chessells and Helen Woodward; David Dewar, Steve Daskey, Janice Foxe and Marie Redman.

Wee Waa Bowling Club have also been placed into grade five and they will line up alongside Lightning Ridge and Narrabri in section two.

The four section one teams include South Tamworth, Glen Innes, Inverell Sporties and Inverell RSM.

There will be six rounds contested across March and April before the two section winners face off in May for a chance to advance to the state finals.

Wee Waa will still be in action this Saturday despite sitting out with the bye in round one when they host Baradine in a trial game at Wee Waa Bowling Club.

Their teams are as follows:
Peter Doring, Jay Hall, Kyne Allen and Renee Doring; Paul Andreassen, Phil Lawford, Charlie Thompson, Kay Dewson; Toby Reynolds, Dustyn Allen, Melissa Allen and Clancy Hamilton.

The reserves are Brock Allen, Peter Hennessy, Steve Berger, Dot Dewson and Steven Dewson.

Wee Waa’s first match of the grade five season will be in round two on March 9, when they travel to Narrabri. They will be away again in round three when they travel to Lightning Ridge on Saturday, April 6, and they will host round five and round six matches on April 20 and 27 against Narrabri Bowling Club and Lightning Ridge, respectively, following their round four bye.
