The rain that arrived on Friday caused chaos for Group 4 Rugby League on the weekend as three grounds were deemed unplayable in round eight, causing six matches to be postponed and three to be relocated.
Saturday’s fixtures at the Kootingal Sportsground between the Kootingal-Moonbi Roosters and the North Tamworth Bears, and Sunday’s games at Kitchener Park between Gunnedah Bulldogs and Wee Waa Panthers were all called off.
The Roosters and the Bears were scheduled to meet in all four grades, and the Bulldogs and Panthers were scheduled to face off in first grade and ladies league tag.
Wee Waa had the bye in under-18s as Gunnedah do not have a team in that division and Gunnedah had the bye in reserve grade as Wee Waa do not have a team in that division.
Boggabri Kangaroos were all set to host their ladies’ day at Jubilee Oval on Sunday, but the first grade, reserve grade and ladies league tag fixtures were relocated to Boughton Oval, the home of their opponents the Moree Boars. Boggabri’s ladies’ day will now be held at another home game later in the year.
There were just three games that went ahead as planned as the first grade, reserve grade and ladies league tag matches between Werris Creek Magpies and Dungowan Cowboys at David Taylor Oval were contested. The home side won two of the three grades as the Magpies outscored the Cowboys 44-6 in first grade and 16-8 in ladies league tag, and the Cowboys were victorious in reserve grade as they defeated the hosts 26-18.
At Boughton Oval on Sunday, the Moree Boars were too good in all three grades as they beat the Boggabri Kangaroos 34-18 in first grade, 46-10 in reserve grade and 24-14 in ladies league tag.
Narrabri had the bye in round eight, and all nine clubs will get a well-earned rest this weekend due to the King’s Birthday long weekend.
Round nine will be contested across the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16, and the second half of the 2024 season will get underway the following weekend.
