I have just received a letter from a business with which we deal, stating that after the end of August, their postal address will be closing and they will no longer be receiving payment by cheque.
Apparently, the treasurer has announced that cheques will be phased out in the foreseeable future.
Apparently, the alternative is BPay or direct debit.
With banks now issuing statements quarterly, it will be hard to keep track of payments made by direct debit.
I’m sure someone will tell me to stop living in the past and come in to the computer age.
I do know how to use a computer, but that’s not the point. I don’t like being told the old methods are no longer to be used and I have to comply with yet another edict from the government.
It’s hard enough to run a small business as it is without more rules being thought up.
We have always paid by cheque and will find it very difficult to pay by other means.
With all the computer hacking going on all over the world, why are we being forced to use the internet to conduct business?
A lot of people do not have access to a computer, how are they supposed to pay accounts?
