The Moree plains has a new information and news service, with the launch last week of Moree Online News.

The free-to-view website is an expansion of Moree Online News social media platforms, and will extensively cover news and events from across the north-west region.

Moree Online News as a social media presence was created about 10 years ago by local residents Bill and Cindy Poulos, and has steadily grown in popularity.

The social media news provider has nearly 20,000 members and followers across three Facebook pages, and Mr Poulos believes numbers will grow as the website gains traction.

“Developing a website from our social media presence seemed a natural progression, and we feel this is something the Moree district needs,” Mr Poulos said.

Mr and Mrs Poulos earlier this year sold their popular mobile coffee business, Deluxe Café Moree, with plans to further develop Moree Online News.

They established Deluxe Café Moree in 2008, and incorporated Moree Online News as part of the enterprise.

At the time, Mr Poulos worked as a freelance writer for several newspapers, magazines and websites.

“When social media arrived, we immediately jumped on board to push our new business, and Moree Online News evolved from that,” he said.

“Our social media platforms continue to grow and will be forever-evolving, and so will our webpage, which is now the go-to source for local and regional news, sport and feature stories.”
Mr Poulos said Moree Online News is free-to-view.

“There is no paywall, and never will be,” he said.

“We are publishing local and regional news and sport, human interest feature stories, local and regional history stories, and general news from across the shire – and it’s free-to-view.”

Numerous Moree businesses and organisations have jumped on board to support Moree Online News.

“We are truly overwhelmed by the local businesses which readily agreed to sign up for the long haul,” Mr Poulos said.

“For these businesses to get behind a concept that is basically untested, is truly amazing.”

Mr Poulos said Moree Online News has a strong connection with Moree Plains Shire.

“We are local people who live and breathe Moree. We know the town, we know the district and we know the people,” he said.
