Thousands of voters will have their say about who is elected to Narrabri Shire Council at this weekend’s local government election.

Pre-poll voting conducted at Narrabri and Wee Waa has already seen 1734 votes cast as of Wednesday morning. Information published online by the NSW Electoral Commission shows 521 applications were received for postal voting, with 112 packs returned so far.

In Narrabri Shire, an estimated 9338 electors are eligible to cast their vote to elect nine people to council.

This year’s election has drawn unprecedented interest, with six groups each consisting of five candidates and eight individual candidates contesting the poll.

Six of the current councillors are seeking re-election.

Pre-poll voting in Narrabri will be conducted at the Narrabri Aquatic Centre multi-purpose room until tomorrow, Friday, September 13.

In Wee Waa, it will be held at the CWA rooms, also until Friday.

On polling day, Saturday, September 14, polling booths will open from 8am until 6pm.

Voting will be conducted at: Narrabri Aquatic Centre, St Lawrence’s Anglican Hall Narrabri, Wee Waa Public School, Bellata War Memorial Hall, Pilliga Public School, Baan Baa Community Hall and Boggabri Public School.

Voting at local government elections is compulsory for anyone who is eligible to vote.

With local government elections, you must cast your vote in the council area you are enrolled in.

To make your vote valid, you must mark at least one group above the line as ‘1’ or five candidates below the line as ‘1’, ‘2’, ‘3’, ‘4’ and ‘5’. You can vote for more candidates. You must also vote either above or below the line – not both.

The Narrabri Shire candidates (in ballot paper order) are:

Group A – Joshua Roberts-Garnsey, Emma Alexanderson, Rohan Boehm, Ian Duffey and Robert Browning.

Group B – Darrell Tiemens, Amanda Brown, Mark Strahle, Peter Harvey and Karen Kirkby.

Group C – Greg Lamont, James (Jock) Duncan, Jenny Wilson, Marilyn Binge and John Carrigan.

Group D – Ethan Towns, Andrew Dewson, Roxanne Whitton, Ryan Whillas and Bernadette Melton.

Group E – Ian Passmore, Lloyd Bennett, Damien Oudenryn, Mark Crutcher and Kent Ferguson.

Group F – Brett Nolan, Jocellin Jansson, Matthew Nott, Kodey Stanford and Kat Denniss.

Individual candidates: Glen Stoltenberg, Brett Dickinson, Peter Guest, Matt Bullock, Ken Flower, Cathy Redding, Navin Erathnage and Colin Armstrong.
