The Narrabri District Junior Cricket Association’s 2024/25 campaign got underway at Cooma Oval last week as more than 100 youngsters took to the fields across two days.

Junior cricket up until the Christmas break will see the blasters players line up on Friday evenings and the older juniors play on Saturday mornings. That format was adopted last season and was popular with the kids and their families.

When junior cricket returns after the holiday break, all age groups will play on Friday evenings on the town fields at Collins Park, Hogan Oval and Leitch Oval.

The Narrabri District Junior Cricket Association’s chairman Luke Baker told The Courier there were positive numbers during the first week of the new season.

“It’s all going well so far,” Baker said.

“I missed the first week, I was away, but all reports were that we had good numbers on Friday and Saturday,” Baker said.

“We have just over 100 kids all up so far, including junior blasters, blasters and junior cricket.

“Regos are still open and they will stay open all season. Anyone is able to register, and kids can come down and try it and see how they like it before they sign up too.”

The NDJCA is looking to field three intertown representative teams this season in the under-11s, under-13s and under-15s age divisions.

Baker advised that spots for those teams were still available and that any keen juniors should get in contact with a committee member at Cooma Oval this weekend.

The NDJCA chairman also advised that junior training sessions are held at the Cooma Oval nets every Friday afternoon from 5.30pm, and that any keen juniors were invited to attend.
