Wee Waa Bowling Club’s 2023/24 season recently wrapped up with the consistency singles final and it was Toby Reynolds who was crowned champion.

Reynolds took on Steve Berger in the decider and prevailed 156-141 across 30 ends following an entertaining game in which he led for the majority of the match and then survived a late scare.

Berger found himself behind before the first-to-151 match had even begun as he was forced to give up a three-shot handicap to his opponent, and Reynolds stretched that out to nine shots when he claimed the first end 8-2.

A 6-4 to Berger on the seventh end made the score 39-28 in Reynolds’ favour, which became 49-28 after Reynolds scored the only maximum of the contest on the eighth end.

Reynolds then claimed the next three ends a combined 20 points to 10 as he stretched his advantage to 31 points, which was the largest lead that either man held during the match.

Berger rallied to claim seven of the next eight ends to claw himself back within seven points as Reynolds led 97-90 after 19 ends.

The duo then split the points on the 20th end before a 9-1 on the 21st saw Berger take his first lead of the contest as he went in front 104-103. They split four of the next six ends and also won one each as Berger established a 135-132 lead after 27 ends, and the game was there for the taking for both men as they battled to be the first to reach 151.

Reynolds reclaimed the lead on the 28th end when he scored a 7-3 to go ahead 139-138 and he extended his lead to 147-140 after scoring an 8-2 on the 29th.

Berger needed to limit Reynolds to three points or less to send the game to a sudden death 31st end, but Reynolds got the job done on the 30th as he scored a 9-1 to win the match 156-141 and be crowned Wee Waa Bowling Club’s 2023/24 consistency singles champion.
