After a heart-warming month of cheer and creativity at the third annual Christmas Tree Pop-up Display, the committee at Meals on Wheels are thankful for the over-whelming support shown from the community from this crafty competition held last month.

Donna MacMillan, a team member at Meals on Wheels, explained her experience from volunteering at the pop-up display.

“Fundraising with events like the tree display continually aid in giving back to our clients. Whether that is through handing out water bottles every day or our Christmas hampers,” Donna said.
“Every year we look back on what went well and what needs improvement,” she said of the event.

“We’re growing this event every turn around.”

Meals on Wheels is well known in the community for the outstanding service it provides to clients. An estimated 120 people volunteer their time with the organisation.

This annual display is brought to the community by Monterey Café proprietor Jenny Wilson, and with its third year running, has allowed people in the community to join in creating festive flair in all different shapes and sizes.

With 25 trees beautifully decorated from top to bottom, voting was a tough process. But competitiveness aside, the Christmas Tree Pop-up Display has again been well supported by the Narrabri community and surrounds.

“Forty years ago, this was started by the community, and we are still here for the benefit of the community,” Donna said of Meals on Wheels’ existence in Narrabri.

Donna urges for anyone who is keen to volunteer for the next pop-up display to do so and help spread the Christmas cheer while donating to a special organisation.

Donna and Jenny paid special tribute to Martin Browne and Catherine McDonald for again allowing the use of their vacant Maitland Street premises.
